UNICEF began its work in Thailand in 1948. Back then, we focused on children’s health, nutrition and sanitation – by fighting life-threatening diseases and providing clean drinking water, safe sanitation, corn-soy milk and iodized salt. Now, UNICEF supports the design and implementation of laws and policies for child rights and well-being. The situation of children has changed over the past seven decades, and so has UNICEF’s work. What remains unchanged is our commitment to reach the most vulnerable children and families. UNICEF’s work is underpinned by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the most widely ratified human rights treaty in the world. Thailand adopted the Convention in 1992, committing to guaranteeing that children’s civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights are fulfilled. Our work also aligns with the national priorities set out in the 13th National Economic and Social Development Plan. UNICEF works with all levels of the Government and partners, including NGOs, faith-based groups, private sector, the media, influencers, other UN agencies and children themselves – to advocate, leverage resources and convene partnerships for children. Non-political and impartial, we are never neutral when it comes to defending children’s rights and safeguarding their lives and futures. And we never give up.
